On May 6, 2017, the Granby Road Race embarks on its 46th year of building community within the Farmington Valley. Seven years ago the Granby Road Race merged with the Farmington Valley YMCA to become one of the organization’s premier fundraising events. This race is run in memory of David Schupp, Jr. The town of Granby is fortunate to have one of the oldest road races in Connecticut in their backyard.
The Granby Road Race is a 5K and 10K race that is shared between road and trails. Both races start at 8:30 a.m. south of Granby Middle School on Route 10. The 5k route is relatively flat. Spending half of the miles inside Salmon Brook Park, it’s a great race for kids and families. The 10k is a bit more challenging with about half of its miles run through the slightly technical trails of the McLean Game Refuge. With a mix of terrain through one of Connecticut’s most beautiful towns, both races are sure to please whether you are an experienced or first time runner.
The money raised from this event directly supports the community in the Farmington Valley giving children and families the ability to attend summer camp, learn to swim, and utilize programs and services that they would otherwise not be able to pay.
The first 100 runners in each race will receive a technical race t-shirt. To register please go to http://www.granbyroadrace.org. All racers who register between today and April 15th will be entered into a raffle for a six month youth or adult membership to the Farmington Valley YMCA. Early race bags pickup will be May 4th & 5th between 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Farmington Valley YMCA.
The Granby Road Race planning committee is made up of community volunteers who are seeking support in the form of donations and race day volunteers. If you are interested in donating to the race or volunteering please contact Brian Liss by calling 860.653.5524, or via e-mail at email@example.com .
The Farmington Valley YMCA is a branch of the Greater Hartford YMCA. The YMCA of Greater Hartford is a charitable association open to all and committed to helping people develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body. This commitment is reinforced by our belief in living out universal values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
